I still haven't seen Garden State, so I am unable to review it for you. Actually, I haven't seen much of anything lately- unless you count watching the first half of Ghostbusters and the middle of Dazed and Confused. And you really shouldn't count that.
But I still thought I should post something before Labor Day weekend- which, seriously, can you believe it's already almost Labor Day weekend? And that August is over? Labor Day weekend to me always seems to be a weekend filled with panic over the fact that I won't be able to wear sandals much longer. In truth however, the holiday is all about how President Cleveland was unpopular in 1894 so he promised that day off to the workers of America in exchange for their undying love and respect. And really, why don't candidates use more cheap ploys like that? Not that I want them to, but history has proved that it works.... how many President Cleveland jokes have you heard? Plus, I like three-day weekends.
So, what are you doing for Labor Day weekend? Let us know what your plans are. Boyfriend and I are headed to Las Vegas on Friday morning because a good way to celebrate working is to gamble away your earnings.
I love Vegas, though, so I don't even get mad when it tries to take my money. Last time I was there I did come home ahead financially, so I'm hoping for a repeat. We are staying at the same hotel I was at last time I was there- the slightly off-strip Las Vegas Hilton. They describe the Hilton this way on the web: "Set against a panoramic desert skyline on 80 lushly landscaped acres, the Las Vegas Hilton is just one block from the famed Las Vegas Strip and immediately adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Las Vegas Hilton ranks among the worlds most famous and popular resort destinations and offers 2.5 million guests each year the highest standard of service. The elegantly appointed 40 thousand square foot casino is open 24 hours a day and offers Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Big Wheel, Keno, Pai-Gow, Pai-Gow Poker, Let It Ride and Caribbean Stud, along with state-of-the-art slot machines and video poker."
What they fail to mention is that the hotel is actually the STAR TREK Hilton, and has Star Trek themed dining, drinks, slots, and entertainment. I get free rooms there often, and the last offer they sent me in the mail was for the "Borg Invasion" package. I don't really know what a Borg Invasion is, but I feel like it's not something I want to be involved in.
I never spend any time there anyway- the room is just there for naps, showers, and storage. And this is just as well as I've never seen a sinlge Star Trek televison broadcast or cinematic release.
However, as much as I want to make fun of a Star Trek themed Hilton- I can't. Why you ask? Because it has STAR TREK THEMED TALKING URINALS in the men's room. And if you don't think that's awesome, you probably wouldn't like Vegas that much anyway.
Have an excellent weekend regardless of what you do, and drive safely. Also make sure you stay hydrated. It's more important than you think. |
